Immigrants to Canada returning after an extended period abroad
As someone who was previously a Canadian tax resident you probably already have a good understanding of how the Canadian tax system works. I can provide re-entry counselling which includes a discussion of any major tax changes in the past few years that would affect you as well as any steps you need to take to reintegrate into Canadian society as a law abiding taxpayer.

Services I offer to a returning resident of Canada include:
Once you are back and settled, I can continue to file your returns for you if you like or you can return to filing them yourself if you are comfortable doing so. I have many clients that used to have international issues but have since returned to Canada that still use my services because they feel that I offer great value and advice to them every year.
- Counselling via phone or email before you return to explain all the rules.
- Prepare and mail your Canadian tax return reporting just your non-resident rental income before the June 30th deadline if that applies.
- Prepare and e-file your Canadian tax return reporting your world wide income after your date of entry.
- Prepare a section 45(2) election to tax exempt the gains on your principle residence while you were gone if this was not done before you left originally.
- Deal with the Canada Revenue Agency on your behalf to straighten out any issues that may arise.
